From Damsel in Distress to Sovereign Queen

July 17, 2023 Hisa Izumi
Most accurate tarot reader in San Diego, CA Talisman Arts Tarot

As a Tarot reader, it’s most important that I help my clients envision and realize their best future. When we are stuck in a distressing situation we often feel overwhelmed, lost and victimized. The eight of swords represents such a state - a woman blindfolded and bound with eight swords stuck in the ground around her. Staying stuck with thoughts and feelings of dread and despair will only create futile future possibilities. One of the gifts of each Tarot card, even if it seems negative, is that it offers clues on how to navigate forward.

An experienced tarot reader has the ability - and perhaps even the responsibility - to point their clients toward potential solutions. If we see the card and a path clearly, a distressing situation is not as hopeless as it seems. Notice how loose the blindfold and bindings are. Overcoming fear, we can remove the blindfold to ascertain the reality of the situation. If not, we will be like an ostrich burying our head in the sand. By removing the blindfold, we gain courage, see ourselves and the wholeness of our world. In most cases, it is not as bad it seems. By overcoming our inertia and feelings of our own helplessness, we can then easily take off the loose bindings and start helping ourselves again, and regain our own agency. The many swords still stuck in the ground might seem at first scary and overwhelming, but if we begin to cautiously take them, one by one, they can be reclaimed as our own weapons. The swords symbolize our tools, our strengths, our skills, our strategies, our experiences, our allies, etc., in overcoming a difficult situation to move onto better circumstances.

The mindset, the consciousness, the reality and the futures of a person stuck in the eight of swords is so different than those of the person who embodies the energy of the nine of pentacles. It is my favorite card, which I nicknamed the Oprah Card. It represents a state of being which I work to realize and consciously support my clients to achieve. It represents someone who is whole unto themselves. Someone who has their own independence, their own financial means, their own sense of self, listens to their own deep guidance, and is confident of their true nature and worth. This is a person who is connected with all that supports them. It is a card about becoming empowered and sovereign within oneself, healed or healing from any past defilements.

In changing one’s mindset, it allows us to choose the caliber of our future. It takes a lot of work to emerge from “damsel in distress” to a “sovereign queen,” as it is only very recently that the Patriarchal paradigm has been questioned and shifted through millennia. I feel many of us are called to walk this journey and I hope to encourage you on your way…as we are only walking each other home.

There is a saying by Hermes Trismegistus, the alchemist, summing up reality and the laws of manifestation:

'As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul...

Constellations in the Morphic Field

Systems constellation work is part of my “tool box”  as an intuitive counselor along with Tarot. Since both methods access information within the Morphic Field, they complement each other, and provide a much deeper and nuanced understanding of the situation as well as possible of healing and resolution.

There are times when clients are stuck and cannot seem to move forward no matter how much conscious efforts were taken. Unhealthy patterns keep appearing and repeating in their life. In such a case I often tap into the Field to find if there are systemic (family and ancestoral) influences are interfering with their life paths.

In his Family Systems Constellation Work, Bert Hellinger observed in The Field that every member of a family or system has equal right to “belong.” When any member has been excluded from the family system, could be from premature death, war, abuse, unacceptable behavior, and unexpressed feelings- the family system will attempt to self-correct. There will then be negative consequences for subsequent generations. Excluded family members and their suppressed suffering become lingering unresolved energies in a family system.  The “family conscience” does not allow any member to be “forgotten.” An excluded family member will be represented by a later born family member who unconsciously takes over unresolved energies in the family system so that the system as a whole can regain balance and order. Thus, we in subsequent generations become “entangled” with our ancestors as we ”take on” our ancestors’ unresolved trauma, their feelings, behaviors and fate.

“Unconsciously, we could find ourselves reacting to certain people, events, or situations in old, familiar ways that echo the past. Sigmund Freud identified this pattern more than one hundred years ago. Traumatic reenactment, or “repetition compulsion,” as Freud called it, is an attempt of the unconscious to replay what’s unresolved, so we can “get it right.” This unconscious drive to relive past events could be one of the mechanisms at work when families repeat unresolved traumas in future generations.” Mark Wolyn

By becoming aware of such entanglements and experience the original trauma through constellations work in the field, clients can begin to heal and remove unhealthy patterns that were not their own.

“As above, so below. As within, so without.” — Hermes Trismegistus

I)  The Morphic Field, also referred as the Knowing Field is a informational ecosystem that transcends space and time.

According to biologist Rupert Sheldrake, consciousness is not something produced by the brain, but rather the brain is a antenna which resonates with the morphic field, "picking up" consciousness as signals from a single, much larger consciousness which all living entities share. This larger field is usually considered to be synonymous with psychologist Carl Jung's collective unconscious.

II)  Synchronicity means “things happening synchronized in time (cronos)” A term originally coined by Jung, it refers to the notable (or even miraculous) coincidences that occur in life.

Synchronicity reveals the meaningful connection between the subjective and objective.

III) Tarot is the casting of archetypal symbols by intent and synchronicity into the Morphic (knowing) field and creating a map of what is currently being manifested. Each of 78 cards have symbolic imagery that have become richly layered with many meanings over centuries.

IV) The experienced reader can accurately and with nuance interpret these symbols and their placements. If the reader has been studying the cards for a long time (usually more than a decade) the reader will have the ability to channel directly from the Field with the Tarot becoming a window opening to guidance.

How to Choose a Tarot Reader in San Diego

Hand-drawn depictions of the Major Arcana in the traditional Tarot deck.

Word of mouth is perhaps the best way to choose a reader. If someone else has had a good experience then it might be worth following their recommendation. The internet is full of tarot readers – some are wonderful, others are not so good. After word of mouth, the next best way for you to assess a reader is by their presence on the internet, especially by reading reviews. Do they have a blog or website that clearly shows they have studied the cards and understand their meanings?  What is their level of experience. Do they seem well rounded and have their feet on the ground? As human beings we all have our own areas of expertise and interest, our own way of approaching readings. Take your time to explore and then pick the reader in San Diego, who feels right for you.

When someone asks me for a reading, I believe it is my sacred duty to do the very best I can for my client: to get myself out of the way, to make no judgements or assumptions or project my own ideas onto them. I am essentially there as a translator. I remove myself from this reality and enter another in which the universe speaks to me through the cards and my role is to relay that to the client as clearly as possible. It is a honor and a responsibility that I am happy to share. As always however, you are in charge of your own life. Take what you can from a reading with an open heart and make the decisions you need to make for yourself.

Warning: If a “psychic” tells you that you have been cursed or have some dark energy surrounding you and that for a few hundred (or some time thousands of) dollars, and will remove it for you by lighting candles, RUN AWAY!! Such a person, is part of an hereditary sydicate, with bosses who set them in storefront with quotas.

Trust your own intuition and let it guide you to who and what feels right

A GPS For Your Soul's Journey

Why do People have Tarot Readings?

People request a tarot reading in San Diego for all kinds of reasons. They may be curious but for the most part however, people come for a reading when they have a dilemma, when they are unsure of the next action to take, when they are concerned about their relationships or just want to see if they are on the right course of action. A tarot reading can also be helpful if you are embarking on a path of spiritual and personal development. A tarot reading for me is less about ‘what will happen?’ and more about ‘what can I do to change things?’

In San Diego, many people turn to different forms of spiritual endeavors such as the Tarot to open wider to life's infinite possibilities. A tarot reading provides the space and time for you to reflect upon your life. The cards are like a mirror showing you the situation as you see it and the probable outcomes of your current course of action. Actions come from thoughts and feelings so on a deeper level, the tarot can show you how your view of life is either helping or hindering your goals, dreams and wishes.

Like our surfers, observing the weather conditions, currents and tides in San Diego, the Tarot can also give you a sense of the waves and cycles of your life now . The situation you are currently experiencing may be offering you a deeper message, a transformational opportunity.

The Tarot may show situations that you were previously consciously unaware of and can offer you profound insight into your life. It hopefully empowers you to move forward with confidence and perhaps even suggests new ways of looking at the world which lead to new paths opening up. A good tarot reading gives you a sense of clarity and often a feeing of being connected to a bigger pattern.

I believe that all of us already know what is best for us on some deep level. We all have a soul and a whispering inner spirit which guides and guards us. Sometimes we may choose to listen and other times we may choose to ignore it. The tarot shows the truth of the situation. It shows what is, not how we would like things to be or fear things to be. The role of the tarot reader is to accurately relay the messages contained within the cards and make the picture clear to to the seeker..

Is the Future Already Set?

Over years of working with my tarot cards in San Diego, both for others and regularly for myself, I have noticed one very important factor: the vast majority of the time, the ‘outcome’ is governed by the level of your awareness (such as that of subconscious beliefs) and present choices. That said, there are a few situations which cannot be influenced, however, how they impact upon you is governed by your response to it. I do believe that there are some paths we are supposed to take and some paths best walked by others. These situations may stem from karmic agreements or particular life-lessons which we have come to learn.
